At least 69 militants killed in clashes in northern Syria

Cairo, Feb 14 .- At least 69 militants were killed in clashes between Syrian factions in the northwestern province of Idlib, according to a British war monitor on Tuesday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the violent clashes took place Monday between Tahrir al-Sham (Liberation of the Levant Committee) and Jund al-Aqsa (Soldiers of al-Aqsa) in the vicinity of a village in the west of Khan Shaykhun city.

Among those killed were at least 39 militants from Tahrir al-Sham, 16 of whom were killed by guerillas from Jund al-Aqsa when they attacked a rival-linked security building in Khan Shaykhun.

Meanwhile, 30 other fighters, including four suicide bombers, from Jund al-Aqsa were killed in the clashes.

Clashes between the two groups continued Tuesday near the town of Tal Aas, under the control of Tahrir al-Sham.

Jund al-Aqsa in Nov. pledged allegiance to former al-Qaeda branch Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, which changed its name from al-Nusra Front six months ago and announced its split from the organization led by Ayman al-Zawahiri.

In recent weeks, there has been fighting between factions in northern Syria, in which Jabhat Fateh al-Sham has been involved.
